What is Transporting Passengers With Special Needs 2?

Transporting Passengers With Special Needs 2 is a classroom defensive driving course built specifically for drivers responsible for safely transporting passengers with special needs. It uses a proven discussion and participation-based coaching methodology — not passive video — to build the habits, situational awareness, and passenger handling skills that keep everyone in the vehicle safe.

The course covers all key defensive driving concepts including pre-trip inspection, SCC (Scanning, Cushion of Safety, Communicating), backing, and driving in adverse weather. It also covers the skills specific to this role — passenger assistance procedures, assisting passengers in and out of vehicles, safe lift procedures, and properly securing passengers within the vehicle. Video presentations feature driver point-of-view footage and real traffic situations that reflect the environments your drivers operate in every day.

Each operator receives a Response Book used for written exercises, traffic situation analysis, and group discussion — completing the course earns a course completion certificate.

Why Use Transporting Passengers With Special Needs 2?

The course is designed to reduce collisions, support risk management, and help organizations protect against liability — particularly in a role where the passengers being transported require an elevated standard of care. It works as both an onboarding course for new hires and a structured refresher for experienced drivers.
Built for ease of implementation, the program gives organizations everything needed to train in-house without the cost or dependency of third-party trainers.

How Does Transporting Passengers With Special Needs 2 Work?

Instructors use a fully scripted Instructor’s Guide to lead step-by-step classroom presentations that combine video, follow-up questions, traffic diagram analysis, and group discussion. Training typically runs 4 to 6 hours depending on the organization’s needs.

Each instructor requires an Instructor’s Kit to deliver the course. Each student receives a Response Book used for written exercises and situation analysis for group discussion. Operators who complete the course receive a course completion certificate.
