Coaching the Experienced Driver PLUS is a classroom defensive driving course built specifically for experienced drivers. It uses a proven discussion and participation-based coaching methodology to sharpen the habits and decision-making skills that tend to drift over years behind the wheel, covering pre-trip inspection, SCC (Scanning, Cushion of Safety, Communicating), backing, driving in adverse weather, child restraints, and more.

Video presentations feature driver point-of-view footage and real traffic situations that resonate with drivers who have seen it all and challenge them to respond the right way rather than the habitual way.

Years of experience do not always mean safe habits. CED PLUS is designed to reduce collisions, support insurance reduction, and help organizations manage risk and limit liability, specifically for the drivers who are easiest to overlook because they have been around the longest.

It works as both a structured refresher for seasoned drivers and an onboarding course for experienced new hires who need to be brought up to your organization’s standard quickly, and it is built for ease of implementation so organizations can run it in-house without the cost of third-party trainers.

How Does Coaching The Experienced Driver PLUS Work?

Instructors use a fully scripted Instructor’s Guide to lead step-by-step classroom presentations that combine video, follow-up questions, traffic diagram analysis, and group discussion. Training typically runs 4 to 6 hours depending on the organization’s needs.

Each instructor requires an Instructor’s Kit to deliver the course and each student receives a Response Book used for written exercises and situation analysis for group discussion. Operators who complete the course receive a course completion certificate.

The three defensive driving fundamentals that never stop applying. For experienced drivers this module is about rebuilding systematic habits that have been replaced over time by instinct, and understanding why that matters on every trip.

Backing and Low-Speed Maneuvering

One of the most common sources of vehicle damage across all experience levels. Covers mirror use, spatial awareness, spotter protocols, and the habits that make backing safer in the environments experienced drivers encounter every day.

Adverse Weather and Special Conditions

How to adjust speed, following distance, and decision-making in rain, snow, ice, and low-visibility conditions, where years of experience can create overconfidence and reaction time becomes everything.

Child Restraints

The correct use, installation, and inspection of child restraints, covering the requirements, the common errors even experienced drivers make, and the responsibility that comes with transporting young passengers.

Traffic Diagram Analysis and Real Situation Review

Real traffic situations analyzed in group discussion, covering what went wrong, what the right decision looked like, and how scenario analysis helps experienced drivers recognize the patterns they may have stopped noticing.
